Using Career Testing to Choose a Major
A lot of career counselors give students lists of college majors to help them choose a major without any career testing. So most students have no idea what jobs are related to a particular major. They have too little information to work with. For example, without understanding if they’re more suited for hands-on research in the field, or a career in nursing with a specialty in psychiatry and prescriptive capability.
Career testing can help a student choose a major they’ll be happy with, not just for four years, but for a lifetime. By analyzing interests, personality and abilities, career testing helps to define the way a student might want to use a major. In fact, career testing can help a student choose a career first (which is really the goal the major is about!) and then decide what path of study they want to take to get there.
